My forever 20 year old son, JJ (Jerry Lee Johnson Jr.) was born in the hospital on Fort Leavenworth. The maternity ward was being renovated. The maternity staff was using the prisoner area of the hospital. The windows and doors were reinforced with bars. The staff gave JJ a little shirt that had “Born Behind Bars” underneath his picture that was overlaid with bars. We all thought that was very cute.
